Training of Parents in the Fight Against Cyberbullying

The rapid expansion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has profoundly transformed the way children and young people interact with the world. However, alongside its benefits, this digital shift has also introduced new risks—cyberbullying being among the most alarming. According to EU Kids Online research, one in five children has been exposed to cyberbullying, and more than 50% of European youth maintain an active online presence from personal spaces such as their bedrooms. This trend underscores the need for equipping parents with the knowledge and tools to safeguard their children in virtual environments. The CB4PARENTS project was initiated in response to this pressing societal challenge, supporting the overarching goals of the EU 2020 Strategy and its Digital Agenda, which promotes safe and responsible use of technology.

PROJECT PROGRAMME
CB4PARENTS was funded under the Erasmus+ KA204 – Strategic Partnerships for Adult Education programme, supporting cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices. The project was implemented over a period of 24 months, from November 2020 to October 2022, with the active involvement of seven partner organizations from six European countries: the United Kingdom, Turkey, Malta, Slovenia, Spain, and Portugal.

PROJECT AIM
The project aimed to enhance the capacity of parents across Europe to combat cyberbullying and ensure safer internet usage among children and young people. Through the development of innovative educational approaches and digital literacy resources, CB4PARENTS sought to empower parents with critical competencies in ICT security, foster their understanding of the risks linked to virtual environments, and ultimately contribute to building a more secure digital landscape for European families.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project pursued several key objectives: to raise awareness among parents, educators, and children regarding cyberbullying and its impacts on health, behavior, and social skills; to develop and implement innovative educational models for digital literacy and ICT security targeted at parents; to enhance cooperation between civil society organizations, public institutions, and private stakeholders in the fight against cybercrime; and to facilitate cross-border exchange of good practices and collaborative learning on cyberbullying prevention within the EU.

TARGET GROUP
The primary target group of CB4PARENTS comprised parents of children and adolescents residing in EU member states, particularly those with limited digital competencies or limited access to educational resources. The project also addressed adult educators, civil society organizations working in adult education, and community stakeholders who support families and promote online safety.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
CB4PARENTS implemented a range of interconnected activities designed to build knowledge, foster engagement, and develop practical tools. Key outputs included the creation of a Common Curriculum (IO1), Digital Training Materials (IO2), and an e-Learning Portal (IO3), all designed to support parents' learning in an accessible and user-friendly format. The project also conducted Transnational Project Meetings for coordination and knowledge exchange, and organized Multiplier Events such as national workshops and an international conference to disseminate results and promote community engagement. Additionally, the project hosted Short-term Joint Staff Training Events to build the capacity of educators and trainers involved in parent education. The project website and online platforms further contributed to broad dissemination, ensuring that parents across urban and rural regions could benefit from the project’s resources.
